Kinds of Love? I Kind of Love You.

Wanna know what's happening right now? Well, right now thousands and thousands of swellegant women and men in the fashion industry are descending upon Bryant Park in New York for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Right about now they're climbing into a cab (to get that morning Starbucks fix) and right about now, this video is popping up on the screen in the backseat of the taxi:



C'est magnifique, n'est-ce pas? This short video is part of our spring campaign that we originally launched in a special photo collage featured in Flaunt magazine. Here's a bit more about the inspiration behind the video:

Inspired in part by the famed romance between cultural icons Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg and the overall vibrant allure of 1960s French pop culture, Alternative’s “I Kind of Love You” campaign video evokes a casual luxury and effortless cool that is synonymous with the premier brand’s fashion-forward, vintage-soft clothing and accessories. From music, art and cinema to the unforgettable icons themselves, the 60s French pop scene was abundantly rich in style and creativity; it was a cultural moment in time that was all about spontaneity, authenticity and comfort—both inside and out. Featuring the latest Alternative fashions for women and men, the film was shot in L.A.’s scenic Laurel Canyon neighborhood.

P.S. A special shout-out to Blind Man's Colour - the delightful tune from the video is entitled "Never Hope for Treasure" off their Wooden Blankets EP.

A Farewell to Fall with Alternative and Jeffrey Butzer

As Thanksgiving is upon us, followed promptly by the holiday season and winter weather, we'd like to say our goodbyes to fall.  To make it official, we're sharing with all of you our last two videos from our fall campaign: Badlands, part 1 and part 2.  Above is Badlands, Part 1, a magical and dreamy autumnal romp featuring music by Jeffrey Butzer.  If you'd like to see part 2, you can check it out on your YouTube channel.


And because it's Monday (and you know how we do), we're adding another song from Jeffrey Butzer to the music player: "Theme for a Tailor" from the album The Garden of Scissors.  If you're even a somewhat fan of Yann Tiersen (the guy who did the soundtrack for Amélie) then you are going to love Jeffrey's music. 

And of course we've got giveaways!  We're gonna send you a copy of the album The Garden of Scissors, which features the song in our campaign video as well as the new song on our music player, and we're also gonna send you both our unisex aa6032 V-Gan Organic V-Neck and our unisex aa2632 Burnout V-Neck w/ pocket.  Jeffrey told me he really likes v-necks, so I figured it was apropos for our giveaway package.

Product 411 - All About Bags

Alternative fan Matt S wrote in and said he wanted some more info about our bags and wanted a better idea of their sizes.  So I grabbed Katie and Kristen, two very knowledgeable ladies in Alternative's Purchasing Department, to film a quick video highlighting the details and features of our three bags: our Carry-All Satchel Bag, our Messenger Bag, and our Hulka Duffel Bag.

Stevie's Fashion Vlog Loves Alternative Apparel For Back To School

Stevie has started himself a fashion vlog on YouTube, and his very first episode features Alternative! We were totally flattered by the nod, so we're sharing this video with all our friends to get Stevie some more viewers. He's got some great tips for guys and girls alike.

Penn Badgley Stars in the (More Fashionable) Remake of 'The Stepfather'

We just got finished watching the trailer for the upcoming film The Stepfather starring Penn Badgley (from Gossip Girl) and we were really excited to see him wearing an Alternative tee in nearly every shot!

The original Stepfather was released in 1987 and starred Terry O'Quinn (who plays John Locke on Lost) as the new deranged daddy.  The remake, which is modified slightly from the original, features Mr. Badgley as the eldest sibling of the family that the psycho stepfather is targeting - the original featured a daughter who was an only child.  The 2009 remake, due out in October, also starts Nip/Tuck's Dylan Walsh and Sela Ward.
