As you gear up this summer with the perfect swim trunks, why not opt for a stylish suit with eco-friendly appeal? After searching for the just the right pair of boardshorts and coming up empty handed, brothers Sam and Jerry Delaney decided to build their own swim brand business: Greenlines Boardshorts.
These boardshorts don’t just look good, they’re designed with the earth in mind. The Delaney brothers offer eco-conscious customers classic styles and cuts and a moderate length, made with durable material and created with a low-impact on the environment. Each pair of Greenlines boardshorts is made with 100% recycled fabric and the company donates a portion of the proceeds to local and global organizations that facilitate preserving beaches.
The brothers design all of their products, which is quite a surprise to them because prior to Greenlines, they had never been very interested in fashion design. However, their mother is an artist and designer, so they grew up around the innovative process and have undoubtedly soaked up some of her creativeness along the way.
Currently, Greenlines Boardshorts donates to Surfrider Foundation, Surfers Environment Alliance, Clean Ocean Action and other small non-profit organizations, as well as charity events. A favorite for them is the Surfers Environmental Alliance Paddle in which they have both paddled the 28 miles around Manhattan to raise funds for Autism awareness and ocean preservation.
“A lot of our customers tell us our shorts are the first thing they put on in the morning. They wear them all day surfing, running or just hanging out at the beach right into an evening BBQ,” says Sam.
There are more than just men’s boardshorts in store for Greenlines. The Delaneys are excited to introduce several new products this year including boardshorts for women and children and a new line of shirts and hats for everyone. According to Sam, all of the “new products will be made of recycled, organic and/or otherwise sustainable materials and have the same classic look and feel our customers look for in Greenlines.”
With Labor Day right around the corner, make sure to stop by the Alternative flagship store on Abbot Kinney Blvd in Venice, CA and pick up a pair of Greenlines. If you're not in the LA area, you can order Greelines board shorts from their website.
