Looking Smart with Prep School Chic

The CW’s smash hit Gossip Girl is back for yet another season of lying, cheating and impeccably dressed teeners. This year, the spoiled-rotten upper eastside gang is starting college, which will doubtless bring even more sophisticated and stunning wardrobe choices along with all the d-rama.

Aside from prompting grown men and women to say things like "OMG, I can’t believe Blair just texted that!" the show has had a major influence in the fashion world, sparking a prep school chic trend for fall 2009 complete with tartan plaid, neckties for women and lots and lots of cardigans. So whether you’re a Blair or a Serena, I recommend that you fashionistas watch season three, if for no other reason than to study up on style.

It's Time for FUN, Courtesy of Judi Chicago

Last Monday, we enlightened you with the latest and greatest video for "Fun City" by Judi Chicago. Fast-forward to this past Saturday, when the Judi Chicago boys had a special release party to celebrate the new video as well as their brand new 7" vinyl "Fun City" single. We took a few folks from the Alternative crew to the party to sh-sh-shake it. Indeed, a good time was had by all, but fear not, loyal readers and musicphiles, because we did not leave empty handed!

Gone Grey

While black generally has top billing for fall, grey is a close second this season. Shades of charcoal, slate and silvery-grey metallics are anything but boring.

How to Wear it

First, ditch your thoughts of the doom and gloom associated with the color. Grey is simple, elegant, and flattering on pretty much everyone. Just be sure to consider your hair color and skin tone when picking the perfect grey. (Hint: those with warmer skin and hair are stunning in silver and pearl grey, while fair-skinned and flaxen beauties look lovely in charcoal and slate.)

For a lengthening, streamlined effect, try a head-to-toe monochromatic grey ensemble, and add a pop of color with chunky statement jewelry—long layered necklaces will stand out beautifully and glam up your look. Or, mix things up a bit and pair grey skinny pants, cords or menswear trousers with a vibrant sweater or top. Grey goes with every color, so you can't go wrong.
