A few weeks ago, Zack Morris (I mean, Mark Paul Gosselaar) went on Late Nite with Jimmy Fallon and we were all teased with the possibility of a Saved By The Bell reunion. It's totally plausible, as the Hollywood machine seems to be obsessed with reunions and remakes these days. It's possible - and it's exciting! This show was a Saturday morning staple for my generation - I'm still driving around with a bumper sticker that says "Bayside Tigers". Like I said, some of us are super excited about this.
But for a split second, our bubble was burst when Kelly Kapowski (oh sorry, I mean Tiffani Amber Theissen) showed up on FunnyOrDie.com with a comic bit about how her schedule was way too full to shoot a SBTB reunion. Cute, but some of us don't appreciate making jokes about such a serious subject.
This week, however, People magazine has restored our faith in humanity with the cast reunited on the cover of their August 10 issue! The golden moment is closer now than ever!
So what has the old gang been up to in the past 20 years since Saved By The Bell first aired? Mark Paul Gosselaar went from portraying a Ferris Bueller-like teen heart throb to a playing a passionate public defender on TNT's law drama Raising the Bar, and Tiffani Theissen dropped her middle name and is, well busy. We're not really sure what she's actually up to, but she says she's busy, so we'll take her word for it. Mario Lopez went from playing macho jock A.C. Slater to becoming a charming, affable host on a variety of cable and network TV shows. Elizabeth Berkley, who played honor roll student Jessie Spano, went and got all... sexy. I've never seen Showgirls personally, but I've heard... things. Perhaps we should have been more concerned after that episode where she had an addiction to uppers?
And lastly, Lark Voorhies, who played super stylish gossip girl Lisa Turtle, has appeared in a few soap operas, co-starred in a few films, and even formed a music group (Geneva) with Michael Jackson's nieces Stacee and Yashi, the daughters of sister Rebbie Jackson. We'd like to personally thank Lark for maintaining Lisa Turtle's status as the fashionable member of the SBTB bunch. That (way cool) vest she's wearing on the People cover? It's our very own Throw-Over Vest! Yeh, she's got the look and she's racking up major bonus points in our book.
Keep your eyes peeled for a reunion!
