T-shirt + Holster = Holstee
Turning fashion into function and philanthropy: "At Holstee we work to make a difference everyday with the help of the Alternative Earth line at Alternative Apparel!
Holstee (as in a "holster" + "t shirt") began simply enough with a desire to add a functional pocket to a t-shirt. In the spring of 2008 the first (raw) prototype was constructed on a borrowed sewing machine by two young, eager lads with zero sewing experience. Nonetheless, for the Holstee pocket and the shirt, it was love at first stitch. After seeing the initial prototype, "Mamanjoon" - the worlds sweetest grandmother - offered some light improvements and helped to sew the first professional looking sample.
Aware of the amazing work of Muhammad Yunus and the potential impact of microlending, the Holstee team made the decision to include the developing world into its business model. They realized, as individuals, what they could lend was limited to what was in their pocket but together as an organization uniting people around the world the potential impact became limitless.
Despite full time "9-5" jobs, the team determined to make a small round of Holstees. The positive energy of Holstee was contagious. With an overwhelming positive response, it was time to make moves. Both Dave and his brother Mike took a chance to live their dream, and quit their jobs (despite a struggling economy) to work full time on Holstee.
Today, Holstee continues to grow with the help of its many fans and contributors. We hope your Holstee t-shirt is a constant reminder to live your dream, and wear your passion."
